IF IT is goals you want, get down to the Maryborough-Castlemaine District Football League. In the final round of the season, three teams kicked 45 goals or more, with Harcourt's Sean Smith slotting 20 in a big day out against Avoca.

It is the second time this season Smith has bagged 20 and his final goal at the weekend was his 100th for the year.

Incredibly, Smith joins another three players who have also broken the ton, including his teammate Christopher Stone, who tops the list with 139 goals.

Stone could manage only nine at the weekend and Aaron Bell also bagged nine as the top team ran amok, winning 47.21 (303) to 4.5 (29).

But it was not the top score of the round. Second-placed Newstead smashed Dunolly 49.25 (319) to 7.5 (47).

In that game, Michael Pederetti bagged 12 goals, while hauls of eight and seven to Dan Christmas and Matthew O'Brien were overshadowed.

Playing bottom team Trentham, fourth-placed Carisbrook also piled on a massive score, winning 45.27 (297) to 3.4 (22).

Carisbrook's star forward Shane Field finished the day with 15 goals, but his tally of 91 for the year is overshadowed by Stone's 139 goals, Maldon's Clint Ladiges' 116, Maryborough Rovers' Jamie Elliott's 107 and Smith's even ton.

In the first week of finals of the Western Football League, Parkside has survived to fight another day, winning its elimination final by eight points against a fast-finishing Spotswood yesterday at Altona.

And in the qualifying final, the Port Melbourne Colts crushed a disappointing Sunshine, 19.15 (129) to 3.11 (29).

In the Essendon District Football League, Strathmore is hot favourite to go back-to-back, booking its spot in the grand final with a win against Doutta Stars yesterday, 23.17 (155) to 11.14 (80).
